Idea Generation

Idea generation is the creative process or procedure that the teachers of Godwin Modern School get our students aquatinted with in order to figure out solutions to any number of difficult challenges. It involves coming up with many ideas in a group discussion, selecting the best idea or ideas, working to create a plan to implement the idea, and then actually taking that idea and putting it into practice. The idea can be tangible, something you can touch or see, or intangible, something symbolic or cultural.

Some of the best techniques used by our teachers to help the students get out their creative best are  brainstorming, save discussion for later,

Idea Generation is important for the students because it…

  • activates prior knowledge
  • encourages students to think about the ideas and perspectives of others
  • encourages students to be risk-takers
  • helps students to take an abstract idea and communicate a practical solution to others (visualizing)
  • serves to form the starting point of creativity and develop a growth mindset which opens their minds for making learning a continuous process.

At Godwin Modern School Our Teachers Ensure that

  • their classroom environment supports and encourages flexibility, risk-taking, open-ended thinking and creativity.
  • Help students understand that there can be several solutions to a given problem, and that they use their creative thinking skills to help them to come up with solutions to problems.
  • Model ways for appropriate idea generation and sharing that demonstrate respect for the thoughts and opinions of others.
  • Encourage students to share ideas in various contexts throughout the day
  • Model ways to record ideas generated during individual and group activities.
  • Provide support to students as they work collaboratively to select an idea to be tested.
